The Lager Cup

The Lager Cup was founded in October 1997 at Trevose Golf and Country Club - a championship golf course in North Cornwall. It has now become a fixture recognised as the single finest golf matchplay event in the sporting calendar.

Two teams battle for the honour and privilege of lifting this prestigious trophy, playing 54 holes of matchplay golf over two days on one of the most challenging and beautiful golf courses in the world. They are Pride & Glory and The Trevose Eagles.

2023 Lager Cup sets new records

Could Pride & Glory secure another hattrick by winning the 2023 Lager Cup hosted as ever at the country's favourite links course, Trevose Golf & Country Club?

The Trevose Eagles knew something had to change so they dropped some stalwarts from over the years. Cairns? Gone. Swinhoe? Dropped. Eede? No thanks. Denslow? Try applying next year. In came two players who between them would need to shoot 5 under just to stand still. Great tactics from the Eagle's new leader in his inaugural outing, Fred Perry.

It worked a treat, they took an unprecedented 6-0 lead after the morning foursomes, the format which over the years has been the preserve of their opposition - Pride & Glory.

Late on in the Friday afternoon fourballs it looked like it could be an extraordinary, unprecendented 11-1 overnight. But P&G showed their inner strength to win points late in the session to share the spoils. It was 9-3 overnight and surely all over?

Some great strength at the top of the P&G singles line-up saw five of the six games turn red on the leaderboard. Could they? Erm, no they couldn't. But a brave comeback saw Pride & Glory win the singles, but ultimately the Trevose Eagles' early dominance resulted in sweet victory for them once again, deservedly winning the 2023 Lager Cup 14½-9½.
